The Concept

The Sherpa Fund promotes the education of young Nepali - particular the children of Sherpas.
Sherpas are and have always been the helpers, pathfinders and guides of trekking and climbing tours as well as for the famous and spectacular expeditions.

Their special capabilities make it possible for many people to enter the unique world of Himalayan montains. Without Sherpas, expeditions are simple unthinkable. They are the true “kings” of the mountains.
Their profession has the disadvantage, that they receive only casual payments. Many of them are consequently unable to finance a good education of their children. A qualified education greatly enhances the occupational chances in Nepal.

Qualification gives children a future - not only but particular in developping countries.
The Sherpa Fund pays eighty percent of the costs of schooling a child. Twenty percent have to be payed by the family.

Aproximately twenty-eight up to thirty- nine Euros per month are required in Nepal to fund a primary and secondary education.

Twenty-two up to thirty-one  Euros are taking over by the Sherpa Fund and paid directly to the school.

In order to secure continuous school attendance up to the final exams and to avoid pupils’ relegation from school due to a lack of funding,

the Sherpa Fund pays school fees exclusively from the interest gained on capital investment.

The organisation’s aim is to raise enough money to secure a solid level of interest payment.

Finally, the Sherpa Fund also helps to establish personal sponsorships for children.
